Source: I Can Read with My Eyes Shut!
Author: Dr. Seuss
The more that yous read, the more things you will know. The more than that y'all learn, the more than places y'all'll go.
Context
This line is from the book I Can Read with My Eyes Shut!, written past Dr. Seuss (1978).
He can read in ruby-red, he can read in blue, he can read in pickle color, too! (Bully right? Though, we confess, maybe not as good as Dr. Seuss's rhymes.)
Anyway, this little poem is from the book I Can Read with My Optics Shut!, which has the True cat in the Lid on the encompass, reading with (you guessed it) his eyes shut. He may be able to read with his eyes close, simply nosotros have to keep ours open to make sense of all these rhyming words. If we had our optics shut, we'd miss the petty pearls of wisdom, like "The more than that you lot read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places y'all'll become."
Where yous've heard it
Yous've heard this from your schoolhouse librarian telling you about the ability of reading. And, being the librarian, she's read the whole volume, and so she knows this story is actually nigh keeping your eyes open while reading, then yous can see where you're going, not just where yous've been! (Another Seuss reference for you.)
Pretentious Gene
If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you become an in-unison "awww" or would anybody coil their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a calibration of ane-10.
Equally long as you're not pretending to be able to read with your optics shut, this quote isn't very pretentious.
